Metztli Reiser4 Trixie kernel macuilli.caxtolli_omome.caxtolli (5.17.15), patchlevel 2, is the last kernel which can be patched with the current, and last, reiser4 patch set 5.16 released by Mr. Edward Shishkin on 2022-04-10.1 As opposed to previous Metztli Reiser4 kernels for Debian 13, aka Trixie, built under an existing Debian Amatlocuilin, i.e., 'Bookworm', upgraded to Metztli Reiser4 Trixie partition in an older Intel -based development environment, this kernel was built in a true Metztli Reiser4 Trixie installed into an AMD Ryzen environment.
Accordingly, I encountered some documentation generating and license incompatibility issues relating to perf affinity to link to libcrypto. Thus, during the creation of Metztli Reiser4 Trixie entry in Metztli IT's collections, as I was building the kernel in a totally different environment, I ended up creating a Debian Packaging for 5.17.15-2 which included patches to fix the documentation generating issues which had not manifested in the older upgraded Debian environment.
Additionally, whereas in the older development environment the build of perf adhered to the Debian hack to prevent linking against libcrypto, I was not successful in replicating the exact environment in this newer Ryzen machine and perf always became linked against libcrypto and the builds prematurely came to a halt -- as those licenses, according to Debian, are incompatible and I would not be able to distribute the DEB packages generated by my kernel build.
Searching online for solutions, I became aware that in upstream kernel 6.17 a patch was developed to remove perf dependency on libcrypto and I began to work on backporting a version of that patch. It was a time consuming and tedious process but in the end a best effort patch was hacked: perf was not linked to libcrypto anymore and I published the DEBs generated by my Metztli reiser4 Trixie build environment.
